CTT Selection Process

The number of students enrolled in the CTT Program is limited by the large amount of one-on-one training required for an active educational experience in echocardiography and the limited number of clinical positions available in clinical affiliates and hospitals. CTT currently accepts 12 to 14 students each year. Classes usually begin in September, the week after Labor Day. An applicant must be at least 18 years of age to apply.

Admittance into the CTT professional training program is the responsibility of an admissions committee. The most qualified applicants with the greatest potential for contributing to the profession are selected. The criteria for evaluation is determined by summation of a student’s percentage score from the categories listed below. The applicants are then ranked by their overall percentage score. Program background, academic success, interest in echocardiography, and evidence of interpersonal qualities that affect success in the profession are thus factors in the selection process.

Selection to the CTT Program is based on evaluation of the following criteria for each student:

Academic achievement - 33%

  • Applicants with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) below 2.0 will not be considered.
  • GPA is calculated on the basis of all courses taken including those repeated.
  • Most importantly, pertinent GPA is evaluated. Pertinent GPA is the GPA in the prerequisite and required related courses for program qualification.

Professional rating - 33%

  • Experience related to echocardiography, cardiovascular, and allied health fields.
  • Response to admission application essay question.
  • Personal interview.
  • Professional recommendations.

Core performance standards - 33%

  • Specialized motor skills.
  • Visual ability.
  • Auditory ability.
  • Physical ability.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Interpersonal skills.

Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the program.
